It’s easy to get caught up in the teachings of Gary Vaynerchuk, Guy Kawasaki, Grant Cardone or any other successful business guru out there; We as entrepreneurs often look to them for a blueprint to success, but what worked for them may not be true for you.

We all have this dream of taking an idea or the solution to a problem and building a company around it and making millions, but the truth is, your idea is probably going to fail. While the business gurus have tools that can definitely aid in your chances of success, There’s no one-size fits all blueprint for success in today’s business climate. Everything that was easy to do is being done, and it’s crowded as fuck!

Sometimes you have to stop chasing the short-cuts and use these time-tested, industry-proof strategies to build your business. After all, this is a marathon not a sprint, *turns up Nipsey Hussle*

Branding

This is the single most important step for creating lasting business success. Branding is much more than a logo, it is the essence of your business/company, its the experience your customers/clients get when they interact with your company, it’s the look and feel of your marketing materials, it’s the tone in your message.

Greats brands aren’t built over night, they require planning and thoughtfulness. Take Coca-Cola for example, they have been able to brand their company as the official beverage for Happiness. They achieved this by always putting forth a consistent message and tone of happiness across everything they do.

It is important for you to figure out what your company’s brand is and begin laying the foundation and building until your company is synonymous with whatever industry you’re in.

Sales & Marketing

What’s your business model? what’s your marketing strategy? who’s your target market? you’ll be surprised how many business owners don’t have the answers to these questions, but they are super important in terms of ensuring you’re maximizing your customer reach. You don’t want to be out here trying to sell something to people who don’t want it, thats a waste of precious time and money. Setup your play before you run it (put a plan together).

Once you have your plan in place, take advantage of all the marketing options available to you. Facebook ads, webinars, local and national media, email marketing, social media, etc. Use them all.

Organizational Structure

This one is pretty simple, if your business is disorganized, you’re destined for some trouble. Having a solid business structure is important because it allows you to have a clear view of every aspect of your company. You should have a plan for marketing, finance, logistics (if applicable), sales, growth, teams, etc.

It’s All About Growth

The dream of most business owners is to scale your business to the point where you don’t have to work on the day-to-day and can focus on the high level stuff like strategy and securing key partnerships. To do this, you have to have growth strategies in place for every aspect of your business.

So the next time you’re on social media and you’re gathering your inspiration from (enter your favorite business guru here), remember that you have to heed the advice, but develop your own plan for growth that fits your unique business situation. Your path to greatness won’t be the same as the next person’s.
